Jokić and Denver visit Shai and the Thunder, who eliminated the Nuggets in a 125–93 Game 7 in 2025. Our read: the history gives this game flavor; Denver’s current supporting cast gives it a fresh question. Watch who makes the stars’ jobs easier.
The history is hard to ignore: Oklahoma City ended Denver’s 2025 postseason with a 125–93 Game 7. That does not tell us what anyone is thinking tonight. It does give Jokić against Shai an extra layer.
Denver has had three consecutive early playoff exits; the Thunder reached the 2026 West finals. Our take: this is an early look at two teams with unfinished business.
Watch Denver’s supporting cast, including DeMar DeRozan. And keep this number handy: last season, Denver averaged roughly two assists for every three made baskets. The finish deserves attention alongside the pass.
Oklahoma City beat Denver 125–93 in Game 7 in 2025. Keep the year attached to that memory.
Denver’s 2025–26 averages: 29 assists, 43.5 made baskets per game.
Noon EDT report: Spencer Jones questionable; Julian Strawther out.
Denver visits the team that ended its 2025 playoff run with a 125–93 Game 7 loss. That score is a reason to remember this matchup—not evidence that anyone has promised revenge.
Jokić against Shai is reason enough to tune in. The more interesting question is whether Denver can leave Oklahoma City with a different kind of memory.
Nikola Jokić has a new teammate worth knowing: DeMar DeRozan, a six-time All-Star.
That is quite a résumé for someone joining the supporting cast. Watch what DeRozan adds alongside Denver’s established names.
Denver enters after three straight early playoff exits. Oklahoma City reached last season’s West finals.
Our read: both teams have reasons to want more than an attractive regular season. Tonight cannot settle that argument, but it can make the next meeting feel more interesting.
Denver’s bench. Spencer Jones is questionable and Julian Strawther is out on the noon EDT report. Oklahoma City lists Otega Oweh, Thomas Sorber and Nikola Topić out.
When the bench comes in, notice who gives Jokić a useful option. One memorable contribution is more interesting than counting every substitution.
Denver averaged 29 assists on 43.5 made baskets per game last season—roughly two assisted baskets out of every three.
That is a team statistic, not Jokić’s personal total. It gives you a good reason to watch the person finishing the pass as well as the person throwing it.
Our take: Denver does not need a one-night revenge movie. It needs a reason to believe the next playoff chapter can be better. Against Oklahoma City, even a promising performance comes with a demanding comparison: last season’s Thunder won 64 games to Denver’s 54.
Here is the debate: how much should a playoff loss from 2025 shape the way we watch these teams now?
And when Denver produces a gorgeous basket, give out two pieces of credit: one for the pass, one for the finish. Which player made the other look better? That is a more entertaining argument than “they wanted it more.”
At noon EDT, Spencer Jones was questionable and Julian Strawther out; Otega Oweh, Thomas Sorber and Nikola Topić were out. Source
