Detroit is 2-0 and Philadelphia 3-0. Follow Cunningham and Maxey, then the players helping them: Reed just had 19 points and 11 rebounds for Detroit; Edgecombe had 17 and 13 for Philadelphia. Duren is out, Thompson questionable, and the Sixers’ official report remained pending. Embiid is expected to rest, per the NBA preview.

Two unbeaten teams meet with their supporting casts firmly in the story. Cunningham had eight assists Friday; Maxey and Brown scored 26 and 27 Saturday. Reed gave Detroit 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Philadelphia received 17 points and 13 rebounds from Edgecombe.

Watch Detroit finish defensive possessions without Duren, who is ruled out. Thompson is questionable. Philadelphia’s official report was still pending at 11:15 a.m. ET; the NBA preview expects Embiid to rest. James missed Saturday, which does not settle Sunday. The basketball question: who keeps the offense productive when the familiar first option is unavailable or covered?

The Plot Thickens

Detroit has ruled out Jalen Duren with a hamstring strain; Ausar Thompson is questionable with an ankle sprain. Philadelphia’s official submission was pending at 11:15 a.m. ET. The NBA preview expects Joel Embiid to rest after Saturday, when LeBron James sat out. James’s Saturday absence does not establish his Sunday status.

Did You Know?

Detroit won all four meetings with Philadelphia last season, including the last two by 22 and 23 points. That gives the matchup some recent history without deciding tonight. The useful comparison is whether this Sixers group can find enough contributors when the game becomes more demanding than its unbeaten record suggests.

The FanFluent Take

Our take: Philadelphia’s supporting players deserve more than a passing glance. VJ Edgecombe produced 17 points and 13 rebounds Saturday; Kentavious Caldwell-Pope made four threes. Watch whether they stay involved after the initial action, when a rebound, cut or second pass can keep a possession alive without another star needing to take over.

Conversation Fuel

Try: “Which team can change the scorer without changing the quality of the possession?” Detroit had six players in double figures Friday, including Duncan Robinson with five threes. Philadelphia has found enough offense to win three straight. The question tonight is whether that variety holds up as the available lineups change.
