Leonard is back in Toronto, Ball has joined Edwards in Minnesota, and both teams are 2-0. Follow Barnes and Edwards, then watch the help around them: Dosunmu had 14 points and 10 assists off the Wolves’ bench Friday. This meeting tests which new partnership creates more for everyone else.
Toronto’s Leonard return meets Minnesota’s Ball–Edwards pairing with both clubs 2-0. Barnes had 28 points and 14 rebounds Friday; Minnesota won by 22 even though Edwards shot 5-for-23. Those are different routes to the same record.
Watch Edwards away from the ball when Ball starts a possession, and notice whether Toronto can interrupt that connection. Minnesota’s bench is part of the story too: Dosunmu supplied 14 points and 10 assists, while Beringer grabbed seven offensive rebounds. Toronto lists Bittle and Malachi Smith out; Minnesota remains without DiVincenzo in the reviewed report.
Kawhi Leonard is back in Toronto. LaMelo Ball has joined Anthony Edwards in Minnesota. Both rebuilt partnerships have helped their teams reach 2-0, and only one club can stay unbeaten tonight. This is a chance to see how the new combinations function when the opponent has an encouraging start of its own.
Scottie Barnes brought Toronto 28 points and 14 rebounds Friday; RJ Barrett added 23. Edwards is Minnesota’s headline scorer, yet the Wolves won by 22 in Orlando while he shot 5-for-23. Remember that contrast: Barnes’s production powered one win, while Minnesota found enough elsewhere to survive its leading scorer’s misses.
Minnesota’s bench supplied some of that answer. Ayo Dosunmu had 14 points and 10 assists Friday; Joan Beringer added nine points and nine rebounds, seven on offense. If Toronto disrupts the starting group, watch whether the next wave can create another shot or another possession rather than simply wait for Edwards to return.
When Ball has the ball, locate Edwards before the pass. Is Toronto keeping a defender close to him, or sending extra attention toward the ball-handler? Barnes and Leonard give you two Raptors to follow as the play changes direction. The interesting matchup can happen away from the player taking the shot.
Minnesota beat Toronto twice last season, but one game finished 128-126 and the other 115-107. Those results offer history, not an answer for these changed rosters. A close finish tonight would be a useful place to compare who takes the ball, who sets the screen and who is trusted with the final pass.
Our take: watch what survives a messy stretch. Minnesota won comfortably despite Edwards’s misses; Toronto beat Washington despite eight Barnes turnovers. Neither team needs a perfect box score. Tonight should reveal whether the help around their leading players still arrives when the opposing lineup presents a different problem.
Ask: “Which new partnership makes the players around it more dangerous?” Then keep Dosunmu, Beringer and Barrett in the discussion alongside the bigger names. Availability note: Toronto lists Bittle and Malachi Smith out, and Minnesota lists DiVincenzo out, in the 11:15 a.m. ET report.
