Golden State is 0–3; Denver just escaped a 23-point hole in overtime. Behind the familiar stars, learn Yaxel Lendeborg and Trevon Brazile: Lendeborg hit six threes in Phoenix, while Brazile scored seven overtime points for Denver. Watch what each rookie does when a veteran has the ball. The next cut or passing window can matter before either takes a shot.
Golden State needs its first win. Denver nearly arrived winless too, before erasing a 23-point deficit against New Orleans. Curry, Green and Podziemski are expected back after sitting Saturday, according to the NBA-hosted preview.
The stars supply the obvious attraction: Jokic had 35 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists, and Murray scored 42 in Denver’s comeback. But keep two rookies in mind. Golden State’s Yaxel Lendeborg made six threes against Phoenix; Denver’s Trevon Brazile scored seven of his 17 points in overtime.
Watch them when a veteran starts the play. Do they find the next passing window or get position for a rebound? Our interest is how they make another possession work, rather than whether either can repeat the last headline.
Golden State is looking for its first win after an 0–3 start. Denver very nearly joined the winless conversation before recovering from 23 down to beat New Orleans in overtime. Monday pairs a team needing a breakthrough with one that just escaped a large hole.
The famous names will draw you in. The extra reason to stay is two rookies who have already made themselves hard to overlook: Golden State’s Yaxel Lendeborg and Denver’s Trevon Brazile.
Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Brandin Podziemski rested Saturday; the NBA-hosted preview expects them back Monday. That expectation is not a confirmed lineup. If Curry plays, follow him after he passes and see whether his defender keeps moving with him.
Denver’s Nikola Jokic just produced 35 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists; Jamal Murray scored 42. Think of Jokic’s catch as the beginning of a sequence. Which teammate moves, and which defender turns away from that teammate to watch the ball?
Lendeborg scored 26 against Phoenix, making six threes and adding nine rebounds and five assists. Brazile supplied 17 points and nine rebounds in Denver’s overtime win. Neither rookie’s useful work is confined to a scoring total.
The interesting change for Lendeborg is the possibility of the veterans returning. Watch what he does when someone else starts the possession: does he move into the next passing window, or leave the ballhandler looking for an outlet?
Murray made eight threes against New Orleans, while Jokic recorded 10 assists. That recent combination gives you a reason to watch Murray away from the ball rather than waiting for the shot to appear on screen.
When the defense looks toward Jokic, track the space Murray moves into and the defender responsible for finding him. A clean catch can be the interesting moment even if the eventual attempt misses.
Seven of Brazile’s 17 points Saturday came in overtime. The NBA preview also notes 12 rebounds in his debut. He has already contributed during consequential minutes; watch where he positions himself around a Jokic possession and where he goes when a shot rises.
Lendeborg’s six threes did not prevent a nine-point loss in Phoenix. Denver’s stars needed overtime after a 23-point deficit. Both results offer a reason to value the ordinary, organized possessions before the highlights.
Our preferred subplot is how the rookies fit the next pass. Lendeborg can be useful without repeating six threes; Brazile can matter before anyone counts an overtime point. Watch whether their movement gives a veteran one more good option.
A conversation starter: the Warriors rookie hit six threes Saturday, while Denver’s rookie scored seven points in overtime. Lendeborg and Brazile give you names to bring up before the broadcast returns to Curry and Jokic.
Then ask: which rookie is helping a teammate get a better next touch? That keeps the conversation going even when neither one is the shooter.
October 26, 11:45 a.m. ET NBA report: Warriors Jimmy Butler III, Moses Moody and Kristaps Porzingis out; Gui Santos questionable; Charles Bassey and Brandon Williams probable. Denver’s Cameron Johnson and Alpha Diallo doubtful; Spencer Jones and Julian Strawther out. Curry, Green and Podziemski are expected back per the NBA preview, not a confirmed starting lineup or minutes guarantee. Source
