Minnesota is 3-1 but must play without Anthony Edwards after his 47-point night in Cleveland. Golden State finally won behind Yaxel Lendeborg’s 31 points, 12 rebounds and six assists; he is questionable tonight. Watch LaMelo Ball organize Minnesota, and the Warriors’ decisions after Curry passes. Replacing creation is harder than reallocating shots.

Minnesota’s last game ended with 47 points from Edwards and an overtime loss. Tonight Edwards is out, leaving a 3-1 team to find a different way to create. Ball’s team-leading 6.3 assists per game give you one useful place to start watching.

Golden State’s first win offered a glimpse of a broader attack. Curry scored 24 without missing a field goal, while Lendeborg added 31 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Podziemski contributed 18 points and five assists.

The catch: Lendeborg is questionable, and Butler, Moody and Porzingis are out. Watch whether the cooperative decisions survive a potentially different lineup. For Minnesota, the equivalent question is who can replace Edwards’s creation without simply inheriting all his difficult shots.

QUICK HITS

FULL PRIMER

The Big Story

Minnesota’s last game featured 47 points from Anthony Edwards. Tonight it has to build an offense without him: Edwards is out in the official injury report. Golden State arrives with its first win, but the who powered that breakthrough, Yaxel Lendeborg, is questionable. This matchup has already changed before anyone takes the floor.

The interesting question is who can replace a star’s decisions, not merely divide up his shots.

Know These Names

LaMelo Ball gives Minnesota a different starting point for its possessions. Through four games, he averages a team-high 6.3 assists; look at who moves when he begins a drive, because the pass needs a target before it needs a highlight.

Golden State’s Brandin Podziemski had 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists against Denver. His value in this game may be keeping an advantage alive after Minnesota’s defense reacts to Stephen Curry.

The Plot Thickens

Lendeborg delivered 31 points, 12 rebounds and six assists against Denver, then appeared as questionable with left foot inflammation and soreness. Treat that performance as evidence of what he has done, not a promise that he will repeat it tonight.

The Warriors are also without Jimmy Butler III, Moses Moody and Kristaps Porzingis. Minnesota is missing Donte DiVincenzo as well as Edwards. These absences make the available combinations part of the story, not a footnote.

Keep Your Eye On…

Follow the possession after Curry gives up the ball. Does Minnesota relax, or does another defender have to keep tracking him? That is where a teammate’s quick decision can matter as much as the original threat.

At the other end, watch Ball’s first pass and Minnesota’s next one. Edwards’s absence creates a chance to see whether the ball travels through several players or simply lands with a new person asked to solve everything.

Did You Know?

Curry made all eight of his shots from the field against Denver and scored 24. Yet Lendeborg was Golden State’s leading scorer with 31. The first win supplied an unusual reminder that a perfect Curry shooting night can still share the spotlight.

That is a more interesting foundation than expecting another flawless box score. Can the Warriors produce enough useful decisions around him when one of Monday’s biggest contributors may be unavailable?

The FanFluent Take

The Warriors should want Monday’s cooperation to survive even if Monday’s lineup cannot. Kerr’s praise for Podziemski and Lendeborg points to an emerging partnership, but a questionable tag means the encore cannot be assumed.

Minnesota’s test is equally revealing. Without Edwards, a good shot created by two or three teammates would say more about the supporting offense than one player trying to impersonate his 47-point night.

Conversation Fuel

“Who replaces Edwards’s decisions, rather than his points?” Ball’s passing makes him an obvious part of that conversation, while Terrence Shannon Jr. offers another player to follow. Neither needs to become Edwards for Minnesota to find something useful.

For Golden State: “Would you rather see another perfect Curry shooting night, or everyone else keep creating after he passes?” Monday gave you evidence to argue both sides.
