Minnesota beat the Clippers with shared scoring and passing: Ball, McDaniels and Hyland combined for 22 assists. San Antonio counters with three straight wins and Wembanyama’s recent 36-point, 14-rebound night. Watch whether Minnesota’s next-pass habit survives a different defensive test. The Wolves’ Saturday injury report was still pending at 11:15 a.m. ET.
Minnesota beat the Clippers 127-101 Friday behind 24 points from LaMelo Ball, 23 from Jaden McDaniels and 19 from Bones Hyland. Those three also combined for 22 assists. The win came without Anthony Edwards, whose knee surgery is reported in the NBA preview; Minnesota’s Saturday report remained pending at 11:15 a.m. ET.
San Antonio has won three straight. Wembanyama posted 36 points and 14 rebounds in Wednesday’s overtime win at Utah, while Vassell scored 12 of his 21 in the fourth quarter and extra period. Watch Minnesota’s next pass and San Antonio’s supporting decisions—not just the biggest name on the floor.
Minnesota’s answer Friday came from several places at once: LaMelo Ball scored 24, Jaden McDaniels 23 and Bones Hyland 19 in a 127-101 win over the Clippers. Now that shared attack meets San Antonio and a Victor Wembanyama performance still fresh in the memory.
Wembanyama had 36 points and 14 rebounds in Wednesday’s overtime win at Utah. The Spurs have won three straight; Minnesota arrives 4-2 after ending its own two-game skid. This is a useful next test for both recoveries.
Ball, McDaniels and Hyland were doing more than taking turns shooting. Their assist totals against the Clippers were seven, seven and eight. Watch whether Minnesota can keep finding the next option when San Antonio makes the first finish harder.
Wembanyama is the obvious Spurs name, but Devin Vassell deserves attention alongside him. Vassell scored 21 at Utah, with 12 coming in the fourth quarter and overtime. San Antonio’s decisive possessions were not a one-player production.
Friday’s Minnesota win came without Anthony Edwards. The NBA preview reports that he underwent knee surgery Thursday; this primer does not assign a recovery date. At 11:15 a.m. Eastern, Minnesota had not yet filed its report for Saturday’s game.
There is also a schedule contrast: the Wolves travel after playing Friday at home, while the Spurs last played Wednesday. That is a short turnaround, not proof that any particular player will be tired or rested.
Watch the pass when a Minnesota scorer reaches the paint and meets a difficult finish. The Wolves had 32 assists against the Clippers; keeping that willingness to share against San Antonio is the interesting part. At the other end, see whether Vassell gets another opportunity to influence the late possessions.
Availability — October 31, 11:15 a.m. ET: Minnesota had not yet submitted its report for this game. San Antonio lists Tobias Harris and Jayden Quaintance out. Friday’s Minnesota lineup does not establish Saturday’s availability; the Edwards injury context above is separately sourced reporting.
San Antonio held Utah to two makes in seven shots and forced four turnovers in overtime. Wembanyama’s 36 points make the obvious headline, but those extra-period stops explain how the Spurs finished the job. It is a useful counterpoint to Minnesota’s latest passing performance.
Our take: Minnesota does not need to appoint one replacement headline for Edwards. Friday showed what several good decisions and several productive scorers can look like together. San Antonio is a chance to test whether that sharing survives a different defensive problem. For the Spurs, another reliable supporting contribution would matter beside whatever Wembanyama does.
“Ball, McDaniels and Hyland combined for 22 assists. Is that the more encouraging number than their scoring?” It gets at how Minnesota can build on Friday rather than simply replay it.
For San Antonio: “Do you remember Wembanyama’s 36, or the four turnovers Utah committed in overtime?” Both mattered, but they tell different stories about the win.
