Washington arrives at 3–3 after holding Charlotte to 79 points. Orlando is 2–4, winless at home, and playing a night after losing to Boston. The noon ET report rules Anthony Black out alongside Banchero and Suggs. Watch whether Franz Wagner’s passing can help the remaining Magic offense create easier shots.
The Wizards beat Charlotte 95–79 with 25 points and 13 rebounds from Anthony Davis and 21 points from Trae Young. Orlando lost 108–97 to Boston on Sunday and remains 0–3 at home.
Anthony Black scored 23 in that loss, but the noon ET injury report now lists him out, along with Banchero, Suggs, Isaac, Nelson and Penda. Franz Wagner had 12 assists despite shooting 5-for-20; Tristan da Silva scored 23.
Watch whether Wagner’s passing creates easier finishes for the available players and whether Washington secures the rebound after forcing a miss.
Washington just won a game in which it scored 95 points. That is an encouraging kind of quiet night: Charlotte finished with only 79. The Wizards arrive at 3–3 with a defensive performance to build on, while Orlando is 2–4 and still searching for its first home win.
The Magic lost 108–97 to Boston on Sunday and get another chance in the same building a night later. For Orlando, the immediate question is whether the offense can generate enough easy possessions to avoid another long evening of difficult shots.
Anthony Davis supplied 25 points and 13 rebounds in Washington’s win over Charlotte. Trae Young added 21 points and nine assists. One gives the Wizards a presence near the basket; the other is the passer Orlando has to keep seeing even after he gives up the ball.
For the Magic, follow Franz Wagner. His shot deserted him against Boston—5-for-20—but his 12 assists show why a poor scoring night does not remove him from the center of the offense. Anthony Black scored 23 in that game, but Orlando has since ruled him out for tonight.
The calendar matters here. Orlando is on the second night of a home back-to-back, while Washington’s most recent game was Friday. The Magic now have to replace Black’s contribution as well as improve the offense around the players who are available.
Orlando’s noon ET report lists Black, Paolo Banchero, Jalen Suggs, Jonathan Isaac, Izaiyah Nelson and Noah Penda out. Washington lists Alex Sarr and Anthony Gill questionable, with Justin Champagnie, Tristan Vukcevic and Jamir Watkins out. These are timestamped designations, not a projected lineup.
Watch what happens after the first shot. Washington held Charlotte to 30 makes on 101 attempts. That is a striking shooting result, but the volume of attempts is a reason to keep watching the whole possession, including who collects the miss.
At the other end, Wagner’s passing gives Orlando a way to create without asking him to make every difficult jumper. The useful tell is whether a pass produces a shot in rhythm or merely transfers the same problem to another player.
Tristan da Silva matched Black’s 23 points against Boston and added 10 rebounds. He made five of eight threes; Desmond Bane made five of nine. Orlando therefore got productive perimeter shooting from two players and still finished with 97 points.
That is why this game is worth watching beyond the three-point percentage. A few successful shooters do not automatically add up to a complete offense.
Washington’s defensive night against Charlotte gives it a clear standard to chase, but one performance is a starting point rather than a new permanent identity. Orlando can test that progress by making the Wizards defend several connected actions instead of one isolated attempt.
Our focus is Wagner’s next pass and Washington’s next rebound. Those smaller moments will say more about whether either team is solving its problem than an early burst of made threes.
Ask this during the first quarter: is Orlando finding easier shots, or simply making difficult ones? Then watch whether Washington finishes its stops with the ball.
The numbers to keep in mind are 79 points allowed by the Wizards last time and zero home wins for the Magic so far. Which team makes its recent result look like the beginning of something?
