The 1–6 Jazz visit a Pelicans team riding three straight wins. Utah won their first meeting by one, but New Orleans just beat Memphis in overtime behind 25 each from Williamson and Matkovic. Jackson and Nurkic are out for Utah; Murphy is questionable and Poole probable for New Orleans.
New Orleans is 3–4 after a 135–134 overtime win at Memphis. Zion Williamson and Karlo Matkovic each scored 25, while Derik Queen added 20. The Pelicans committed only eight turnovers. Utah is 1–6 after losing 119–97 at San Antonio despite 22 points from Lauri Markkanen.
The Jazz protected the ball with 11 turnovers but shot 34-for-96. Watch whether their next pass creates a cleaner shot. Utah won the first meeting 120–119, but Jackson is now out; New Orleans lists Murphy questionable and Poole probable at 2 p.m. ET.
Utah’s only win this season was a one-point victory over New Orleans. Since then, the teams have moved in different directions. The Jazz are 1–6; the Pelicans have won three straight to reach 3–4.
New Orleans just handed Memphis its first loss, 135–134 in overtime. Utah lost 119–97 in San Antonio. The rematch is a chance to see how much the current versions resemble the teams that played 120–119 on October 23.
Zion Williamson had 25 points and 11 rebounds without a turnover in Memphis. Karlo Matkovic also scored 25, with five made threes. Those two lines offer different pictures of where New Orleans’ scoring can come from.
Lauri Markkanen led Utah with 22 points and eight rebounds against San Antonio. Darryn Peterson supplied 14 points and six assists. Watch whether their productive moments can become connected possessions rather than isolated responses to the scoreboard.
The first meeting does not come with identical personnel. Jaren Jackson Jr. played in Utah’s win but is out on the November 4 report, alongside Jusuf Nurkic.
At 2 p.m. ET, New Orleans lists Trey Murphy III questionable, Jordan Poole probable and Yves Missi out. A probable designation is not a guaranteed appearance, and a questionable one is not an absence. The available group will shape how many of the Pelicans’ recent options can share the work.
Utah committed only 11 turnovers in San Antonio, but it made 34 of 96 shots. Keeping the ball is progress only if the resulting attempts become good enough.
New Orleans committed eight turnovers across an overtime game in Memphis. Watch whether the Pelicans can preserve that patience when the first opening disappears, and whether Utah can make the next pass create a better attempt instead of merely another attempt.
Derik Queen added 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the Memphis win. Matkovic went 9-for-13 from the field; Williamson went 9-for-15. There were several productive destinations for the ball.
That is a useful viewing cue: when Utah sends help toward one threat, look away from that player and find the teammate who becomes available. The result of that second decision may explain the possession.
New Orleans’ recent wins deserve attention, but the most useful detail is how the latest one happened. Several players contributed while the team kept its turnover total low.
Utah does not need to discard everything from its last game. Its ball security was better than the final margin might suggest. The next step is to combine that care with a shot that forces the defense to solve something difficult.
Conversation starter: which is the more encouraging number, New Orleans’ eight turnovers in overtime or Utah’s 11 in a loss? The answer depends on what those retained possessions produced.
The first meeting finished 120–119 for Utah. Keep that result in mind, but watch today’s decisions rather than expecting the same game with a different ending.
The November 4, 2 p.m. ET report lists Utah’s Jaren Jackson Jr. and Jusuf Nurkic out. New Orleans lists Trey Murphy III questionable, Jordan Poole probable and Yves Missi out. Source
