Watch whether the next pass creates a better shot instead of leaving one player to manufacture it. San Antonio won the first meeting without Flagg on the floor. Today’s report lists Christie and Lively out for Dallas, with Aldama doubtful; Harris and Quaintance are out for San Antonio.

FULL PRIMER

The Big Story

San Antonio won its last game by 22 while Victor Wembanyama scored 12. That is the intriguing part of a five-game winning streak: the Spurs just showed how many other players can contribute.

Dallas arrives at 4–3 after losing 115–100 to Sacramento. San Antonio is 5–2 after beating Utah 119–97. The Mavericks need a response, and the opponent offers more than one problem to solve.

Know These Names

Dylan Harper led the Spurs with 17 points against Utah and added seven rebounds and eight assists. Stephon Castle supplied 16 points and four assists without a turnover. Watch their decisions when the defense has already committed attention elsewhere.

Cooper Flagg scored 17 against Sacramento, but the route was difficult: 3-for-19 from the field, rescued in part by 11-for-11 free throws. Daniel Gafford made nine of 10 shots for 20 points. The contrast is a reason to follow how Dallas creates each attempt.

The Plot Thickens

San Antonio took the first meeting 122–106 in Dallas on October 24, when Flagg did not play. That gives the rematch context without making the earlier game a complete guide.

At 2 p.m. ET, Dallas lists Max Christie, Tarik Biberovic, Sergio de Larrea and Dereck Lively II out, with Santi Aldama doubtful. San Antonio lists Tobias Harris and Jayden Quaintance out. Those are today’s reported statuses, not projected lineups.

Keep Your Eye On…

Watch what Dallas does after an initial attempt is denied. Flagg’s 3-for-19 night should not be reduced to a request to make more shots. The useful question is whether the next possession gives him or a teammate a cleaner decision.

Walter Clayton Jr. made four of five threes against Sacramento and scored 20 without a turnover. Finding productive teammates early can matter as much as asking a primary scorer to force a correction.

Did You Know?

Wembanyama finished the Utah game with 12 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Seven Spurs scored in double figures. A modest scoring total did not mean he had a small role in the result.

That is a useful distinction for this matchup. Follow what happens after the ball leaves his hands, and whether Dallas can still close the possession once another Spur takes over the decision.

The FanFluent Take

The Spurs’ recent balance is a concrete challenge for Dallas: defending one player well may still leave several others able to finish the possession. Dallas’ last game, meanwhile, included efficient scoring from Gafford and Clayton despite the disappointing result.

Our focus is whether the Mavericks can connect those successful pieces. An early pass to a teammate with an advantage is a more useful response to missed shots than a harder attempt on the next trip.

Conversation Fuel

Conversation starter: which Wembanyama line is more interesting—a huge scoring night, or 12 points in a 22-point win with seven double-figure scorers?

Then watch Dallas through the same lens. Gafford and Clayton each scored 20 against Sacramento. Can those contributions become part of a cleaner team possession rather than isolated bright spots?
