The 6–3 Timberwolves visit the 4–4 Pelicans, who have won four straight. Minnesota beat Houston with Dosunmu’s 21 points and six assists, Ball’s 20 and six, and Kuminga’s 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
New Orleans beat Utah in overtime with 23 from Williamson, 22 from Bey and 20 apiece from Murray and Queen. Edwards, DiVincenzo and Shannon remain out; Murphy is available and Missi out at 3 p.m. ET. Watch the pass that turns the defense’s help into someone else’s opportunity.
New Orleans has turned four straight losses into four straight wins. Its latest escape, 120–113 in overtime against Utah, brought the Pelicans back to 4–4. Minnesota arrives 6–3 after winning 117–107 in Houston.
The appealing contrast is how many different contributors both teams can point to. This is a game to follow beyond the first scorer who gets your attention.
Ayo Dosunmu had 21 points, six assists and no turnovers against Houston. LaMelo Ball added 20 points and six assists. Jonathan Kuminga supplied 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
New Orleans got 23 points from Zion Williamson, 22 from Saddiq Bey and 20 from Dejounte Murray against Utah. Watch which player receives a useful chance after the defense commits to stopping someone else.
Minnesota remains without Anthony Edwards, Donte DiVincenzo and Terrence Shannon Jr. on the 3 p.m. ET report. Their absence makes the work of the available creators especially relevant.
New Orleans lists Trey Murphy III available and Yves Missi out. Available does not specify a minutes total or a starting role; it does distinguish Murphy’s current status from earlier uncertainty.
Follow Kuminga when he is not the first option. He made four of seven threes in Houston. A defense that helps toward the ball still has to account for the receiver waiting outside.
At the other end, watch how New Orleans moves between Williamson’s scoring opportunities and Bey’s. Bey shot 9-for-14 against Utah. The useful question is whether the first action leaves the next player room to work.
Derik Queen added 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists in the overtime win. Murray made all 11 free throws on the way to his 20 points. New Orleans had several ways to keep the scoring moving.
That does not guarantee the same output tonight. It gives you several players to follow when the defense takes away the most obvious option.
Minnesota’s less conspicuous contributions deserve attention too. Rudy Gobert had 11 rebounds and four blocks in Houston; Bones Hyland scored 19 in 16 minutes.
Our focus is whether the production remains connected to the defensive work. The Pelicans have won their last two in overtime, but a successful late response should not be mistaken for a plan to fall behind again.
Which Minnesota line best explains the win in Houston: Dosunmu’s zero turnovers, Kuminga’s four threes, or Gobert’s four blocks? Each describes a different responsibility fulfilled.
For New Orleans, follow Queen for a few possessions. His six assists make him worth watching even when someone else supplies the finish.
