Young makes his first Atlanta visit as a Wizard after the Hawks won Wednesday’s meeting 120–105. Atlanta dominated the boards 57–41 and made 19 threes to six. Davis and Jalen Johnson are questionable on the 3 p.m. ET report. Watch Washington finish stops before getting carried away by the reunion.
The homecoming arrives with a fresh comparison: Atlanta beat Washington by 15 on Wednesday. Alexander-Walker scored 26 with six threes; Okongwu collected 16 rebounds. Young had 18 points and six assists, while Davis had 26 and 10. Atlanta attempted 13 more shots and won the three-point count 19–6.
Washington’s response starts with collecting the rebound and creating better perimeter opportunities. Davis and Jalen Johnson remain questionable at 3 p.m. ET.
Trae Young returns to Atlanta wearing Washington’s uniform for the first time. The Hawks have already supplied an uncomfortable welcome to this reunion: a 120–105 win in Washington on Wednesday.
The teams meet again with Atlanta at 5–4 and Washington at 4–4. Familiarity gives this game a personal hook, but the first meeting left a concrete problem for the Wizards: Atlanta found far more shots and far more threes.
Young finished Wednesday with 18 points and six assists. Kyshawn George added 25 points and seven assists, while Anthony Davis supplied 26 points and 10 rebounds. Washington did get production from several places.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker answered with 26 points and six made threes for Atlanta. Watch where his defender is when Young’s former team starts moving the ball; the pass before the shot can explain the opening.
Davis is questionable with a right ankle sprain on the 3 p.m. ET report. Atlanta’s Jalen Johnson is also questionable. Neither designation establishes that the player will be available.
Atlanta lists Gilbert, Gueye, Landale, Newell and Veesaar out. Washington lists Beekman, Champagnie, Vukcevic and Watkins out, with Okpara doubtful. RayJ Dennis and Jalen Wilson are questionable for Atlanta. The rematch should be judged with the active players in view.
Watch the rebound after Washington makes Atlanta miss. The Hawks won that count 57–41, with 16 from Onyeka Okongwu. That kind of extra work can keep a defense on the floor after it has done the difficult part.
The three-point difference was just as striking: 19 makes for Atlanta, six for Washington. The Wizards need useful opportunities of their own while making the Hawks work harder for theirs.
Atlanta attempted 101 field goals to Washington’s 88 and recorded 34 assists to the Wizards’ 25. Those are different measures, but together they describe a team getting more chances and moving the ball through more successful passes.
A rematch is a good place to watch the first adjustment. Does Washington remove an easy pass, secure a loose rebound, or find a cleaner shot before Atlanta’s defense settles?
Young is the obvious focal point, but CJ McCollum is part of the same exchange of histories. He had 15 points and five assists Wednesday; the official preview identifies him and Corey Kispert as the players Atlanta received in the Young deal.
Our focus is what happens away from the reunion. If Washington commits extra attention to one creator, can the next Hawk still make a quick, useful decision?
Ask which number matters most from Wednesday: Alexander-Walker’s six threes, Okongwu’s 16 rebounds, or Atlanta’s 13 extra shot attempts. Each answer sends your eyes somewhere different.
Then watch Young’s first few possessions back in Atlanta without assuming an emotional script. The quality of the chances Washington creates will tell you more than a prediction about how a homecoming should feel.
The November 6, 3 p.m. ET report lists Anthony Davis and Atlanta’s Jalen Johnson questionable. Washington’s Beekman, Champagnie, Vukcevic and Watkins are out; Okpara is doubtful. Atlanta’s Gilbert, Gueye, Landale, Newell and Veesaar are out; RayJ Dennis and Jalen Wilson are questionable. Source
